Frequently Asked Questions

Is it legal to scrape Facebook group posts?

Yes — scraping data you already have lawful access to is legal when done in a non-substantial way. You only scrape groups you're already a member of. For details, see our legality of web scraping guide.

Do I need to log into Facebook to use this scraper?

Yes — account sync is required. Private groups are only visible to members, so we sync your Facebook account via a Chrome extension using session cookies (never your password). How account sync works.

Can my Facebook account get banned?

Not with lobstr.io. We respect Facebook's rate limits and scrape at a safe pace — no risky hacks. See our ban avoidance guide.

How is this different from the Public Group Posts Scraper?

This one works on private groups — any group you're a member of, including member-only communities. It also unlocks filters (like Fetch Since) that only exist when you're logged in. Our public group scraper is login-free but limited to public groups and public posts.

What data do you extract from each post?

Every post comes with text, post URL, timestamp, group ID and title, author ID and name, likes/comments/shares counts, full reaction breakdown (love, haha, wow, sad, angry), up to 2 images, video URL, link attachment and the top 2 visible comments.

Can I scrape multiple groups at once?

Yes — feed in as many private group URLs as you want. The scraper queues them and extracts every matching post across all of them in one run.

Can I filter posts by date?

Yes — use the Fetch Since parameter. Accepts relative values like 1h, 1d, 1w, or an absolute date like 03-03-2023. The scraper stops as soon as it reaches posts older than your cutoff — perfect for daily monitoring.

How many comments per post do you extract?

The top 2 comments visible without clicking "View more comments". Facebook only renders the first comments by default, and we capture exactly those.

Do you extract images and videos?

Yes. Each post includes up to 2 image URLs, a video URL and any link attachment. Download HD media directly from the URLs.

How fast is it?

We process up to 15 posts per minute per synced account. Paste your group URLs, set Fetch Since, and we'll extract every matching post.
